On Monday, June 29, 2015 President Barack Obama signed two pieces of trade legislation into law that United States steelmakers believe will create brand new markets and improve their overall defense in battling illegal imports.
The Bipartisan Congressional Trade Priorities and Accountability Act (TPA), which was signed by President Obama, allows the president the ability and authority to prioritize and “fast track” passage of trade agreements. This is seen by many as a condition for the implementation of the Trans-Pacific Partnership.
According to President Obama the TPP will include, “strong protections for workers and the environment… [that] will actually be enforceable.”
